The disassembly of smb3 is a key step into the magical world of editing the game on a grand scale. It has the entirety of the code mapped out on top of the all variables assigned. To access the disassembly all you need to do is go to https://github.com/captainsouthbird/smb3. From the github page you can either choose to read through the files on the website or download them directly.

Sadly we cannot legally provide you a .nes rom. But I can help you figure out how to patch the rom. In order to patch a rom you need a program named "flips". Then you need to locate you unmodified smb3 rom. From there you will want to open flips an apply the patch and it will ask for the patch and rom. If all goes well you will have the rom. Sorry for the short reply, I'm in bfe on my phone xD

For the upcoming editor we will be utilizing a fork of the disassembly above, located at https://github.com/Drakim/smb3. The disassembly uses asm6 compared to nesasm which is superior.

Description:
Hearing a call of distress from Princess Toadstool through the pipes leading from the Mario Bros’ Plumbing Shop to the Mushroom Kingdom, Mario and Luigi leaps into action, heading through the pipes and straight towards the Mushroom Kingdom Palace. Upon arriving, they found the place a complete wreck (Once again).

Recognizing King Bowser Koopa’s handiwork, the Brothers knew what they had to do. The trail of destruction led to an area that the Brother’s hadn’t visited in ten years or more–The Grasslands.

Just as they had all those years before in their third adventure, Mario and Luigi set out to cross the eight worlds, heading for Bowser’s Castle to rescue the Princess. However, a lot can change in ten years, and a lot has. Though many things were the same or quite similar to what the Brothers remembered, many others were quite changed. Koopa has had ten years to beef up every area between the Mario Brothers and his Castle, and he has used the opportunity well. The Mario Brothers are in for their toughest challenge ever.

As of 2006, this is hailed as one of the greatest NES hacks of all time. This Super Mario Brothers 3 hack changes the game right down to the core by tweaking the actual game engine itself!

Aside from the ‘typical’ graphics and text changes, this hack alters musical melodies, a full line up of all new levels, new power ups, new abilities for Mario, and even new enemies! When I say new, I’m not talking about changed graphics; I’m talking about completely new power ups and monsters. Money mushrooms, invisible Mario, time stopping potions, Kuribo shoes in any level that don’t disappear, shy guys that create projectiles, heat seeking bullet bills, and others are just the beginning of the changes made to this game.

On top of that, you have random weather patterns on every stage, boss battles on every stage, and infinite lives, so your coins go to more useful purposes. They will be used to buy items from Toad’s house and get some level exits to appear. Let’s not forget stored, and switchable, power ups such as those found in Super Mario World!

This description really doesn’t do this hack justice. It’s certainly impressive to say the least. Just download it and try it out! It’s definitely one of the most advanced SMB3 hacks to date and pretty darn fun as well!

A second Super Mario Bros. 3 hack! The levels in this hack are vastly different from the original game, to feel like a completely new experience! Levels don’t start out terribly difficult, but get tricky later on, though they never become unfair. Secrets are strewn throughout the many levels, including new levels for the White Mushroom Houses, with new coin requirements, and the hidden whistle.

"Muhuhahaha! At last, I have something POWERFUL!" Bowser exclaimed deep within the mines of a distant land. In his rough hand he held a jewel containing the ultimate power-- the Chaos Emerald. By the means of a dream Kammy Koopa had one night, they were able to trace this elusive jewel to it's very location underground. And now that Bowser had near unlimited power at his disposal, he was going to use it... to crush Mario forever.
Flying back to his homeworld via Clownmobile (the one he always flies around in), keeping the Emerald safe in a prism the entire way, Bowser headed back to World 8, Dark Land (or Castle of Koopa, whichever you prefer) and landed atop his castle. He and Kammy Koopa stood at the pinnacle, wondering what to do next. Kammy spoke:
"In my dream, the voice said, 'This contains the unlimited power of Chaos Control. Find it.' But what would THAT mean?"
Bowser shook his head. "Chaos Control... Hmm..."
Instantly the green Emerald lit up, emitting a noticeable energy. Bowser laughed. "Okay! I figured it out! Take cover, Kammy!"
Kammy flew back on her broom about 100 feet or so. Bowser held the Emerald heavenward and shouted at the top of his lungs, "CHAOS... CONTROL!!!"
Immensely bright light poured out of the jewel, enveloping everything as far as the eye could see. And in reality, this light had covered every square inch of ALL 8 of the Worlds in Mushroom Kingdom! This was Chaos Control at it's strongest.
When the light cleared, World 8 was WAY different. Instead of a hot, dark, barren-like area, it resembled something like a twilight universe. Bowser and Kammy were amazed. "Wow! Kammy, let's go check out the new and improved Mushroom Kingdom!"
They flew across all the new Worlds, and were amazed further. They were made MUCH harder to travel on by foot, that's for sure! Bowser had accomplished the feat of transforming every World through the power of Chaos Control, but he wasn't done.
"I'll build 7 new Airships and power them with the Emerald. I'll send one Ship out to the 7 Worlds before mine, piloted by my Koopa Kids. I'll have all the Magic Wands re-stolen from the 7 Kings, who still don't know what hit them. And this will lure Mario to his doom! Muhuhahaha!!"

Meanwhile, right after the light cleared, Princess Peach (who was in Mario's house on the outskirts of World 1) looked out the window... and what she saw was NOT the Grass Land she was used to, but more like the surface of the moon. (The only difference would be that it was still daylight over the World they were in, making it look TRULY weird.) Peach quickly brought Mario to the window, and he was all "Ooh!"
Peach was worried and didn't know what to do, when news via an excited Toad reached her informing her that 7 out of 8 Worlds were under attack by a MASSIVE Battlecruiser.
"Wait a minute... 7 out of 8?" Peach inquired.
"That's right! Suspicious, eh? But I've got to tell the others!" And the Toad child ran off.
Mario didn't waste any time. "Ooh, no ya don't, big Bowser! It's-a Mario's day!" And ran down the road, en route to the World's Castle. He never noticed that Peach went her own separate way after he left the house...

Can Mario restore the effects of Chaos Control? The only way to do that would be to win the Emerald back. So good luck, Mario! And Peach, wherever you've gone off to... Good luck to you, too.

While Mario is romping through the Mushroom Kingdom’s royal water fountains one day, he is witness to a mysterious phenomenon: the fish from around the kingdom begin to take flight! It’s up to the Mario Brothers to find out what is responsible (I wonder…) and stop it before the local fish markets are all dried up! Note that this is a “mini-hack” – a novelty/concept hack that is complete and spawns only one world.

Here is a ROM hack that alters almost all the levels in the game. It also adds great difficulty to the game play with the level layouts the way they are.
